What are business machines?

Business machines can encompass a wide range of technologies, including photocopiers, scanners, fax machines (facsimile) and dictation machines.

Here at all4myoffice.com, we supply a wide range of business machine solutions, from many manufacturers.

Whilst you are here, below you can find some interesting facts about today and yesterday's business machines...

This month's focus - The Photocopier

For all you geeks out there, did you know that the Photocopier was invented in New York by a chap called Chester Carlson, patent attorney, who was given the task of copying many important papers. Due his his arthritis, he was looking for a better way to carry out this tedious task, as multiple copies were made using carbon paper or duplicating machines. He therefore experimented with photoconductivity and electrophotograpghy. He quickly found a process using a zinc plate covered in sulfur. The words "10-22-38 Astoria" were written on a microscope slide, placed on top of more sulfur and under a bright light. When the slide was removed, a mirror image of the words still remained. However, Carlson failed to sell his invention at the time because is was so under-developed.

The first recognised electronic copier, was produced by Xerox, whom we still know today. These earlier photocopiers developed the process of electrostatic copying technology where a high contrast electrostatic image copy is created on a drum and then a toner is transferred to paper, heated and then fused into the paper. The problem with this technology was the cost of replacement toners.

So today we are becoming more familar with Digital Copying. Images only need scanning once to produce multiple copies and allow for image enhancement. Many of today's copiers come with in-built scanners.

Current photocopier brands include: Canon, Xerox, Ricoh, Toshiba, Konica Minolta, Kyocera Mita
